Mary parked her car and walked the rest of the way to care for a two-year-old sustained by a ventilator.

Mary, a home nurse, traveled by car to her client's home in Toms River only to discover she could not get down the road with her car because of two large trees and downed power lines. So she parked her car and walked the rest of the way to care for the two-year-old who was being sustained by a ventilator powered by a generator.

The parents told me that Mary was able to work with their daughter all day and keep a smile on her face without the power or conveniences that would make entertaining a child easier.

Later Mary was given a small bonus for making the extra effort to get to work. Mary donated the bonus to one of our office people who had lost her home in the hurricane.
