Woody's Ocean Grille, Sea Bright
Introduced by U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg at New Jersey Chamber Congressional Dinner, Jan. 31

When Sandy devastated Sea Bright, Woody took it personally
Chris Wood grew up enjoying the sand and sun of Sea Bright. After making his way in the world as a successful Wall Street bond broker, Woody returned to Sea Bright 25 years later and bought the club he once served as a bouncer. He turned it into Woody's Ocean Grille, one of the area's most popular restaurants.

When Sandy devastated Sea Bright, Woody took it personally. He went into action quickly, gathering together his staff and an army of chefs to feed those working to restore Sea Bright.

Going literally around the clock, Woody turned his restaurant into a "command center" and later created a huge outdoor tent that served three meals a day every day to rescue workers and local residents. It came to be known as "Food City."

Like so many other stories, Woody's is a story of community. Hundreds of volunteers from the area, including other restaurant owners, heeded Woody's call for help and Woody would be the first to tell you that. But Woody was the catalyst, the force that made it happen.
