Hometown: Jersey City
Submitted by: Mark Rabson
Several feet of storm water flooded the first floor of The Jersey City Medical Center, its campus buildings and several nearby homes. Some of our employees lost everything except for the clothes on their back as their homes were destroyed.
Maureen Corrado, the hospital’s director of the employee experience, set up a committee that took eight of the affected employees shopping for clothing. Maureen then contacted a real estate agent to find temporary housing for a single mother with a three-year-old whose apartment was uninhabitable, and Maureen made arrangements for the hospital to rent a studio apartment and furnish it with cots and other items from the hospital.
Maureen solicited local contributions and worked with the New Jersey Hospital Association Hardship Fund to provide assistance to cover the rent. Maureen even contributed some of her own furniture.
