Team USA was powered by three goals from Carli Lloyd, of Delran, and by a goal from Tobin Heath, of Basking Ridge. They are two of the four New Jersey women on what some have begun calling the best women's soccer team of all time. Heather O'Reilly of East Brunswick and Christie Rampone of Point Pleasant are also on the squad.
In a display of New Jersey tenacity, Lloyd scored the quickest goal in a Women's World Cup final in the third minute of the team's victory. And she became the first player to score three goals in the final of this tournament - all in the first 16 minutes.
Lloyd scored a total of six goals in the final four games of the tournament, leading the team to the top step of the podium.
